Clinical Studies on Obesity Treated by Starvation


Abstract
Clinical studies were dine on 30 cases of obesity which were treated by starvation in Dept. of Oriental Physical Therapy, Oriental Hospital in Won Kwang University from lst, September in 1987 to 31th, August in 1988.
The results were follows ;
1. The ratio of male to female was 1 : 3.3.In the age distribution, the highest frequency was twentieth decade as 36.7% and thirtieth decade, fourth decade, teen decade were in order of frequency.
2. In the duration of symptom, less than five years was the highest frequency as 46.7%, more than twenty years was the lowest frequency as 3.3%.
3. In clinical types, hypertrophic type was 73.3% and hyperplastic type was 26.7%.
4. In the clinical menifestation and complications, the most frequency was low back pain 53.3% knee joint pain 36.7% headache 23.3%, and constipation, dizziness, fatigue was constipation, dizziness, fatigue was in order of frequency.
5. In chief complaints during starvation were general weakness, nausea. dizziness, headache, insomnia, vomiting, gastric pain and itching sign.
6. Reduction of weight were 8.14¡¾0.19% on seventh fasting day, and 9.74¡¾0.29% on third refeeding day by starvation treatment.
From the above results, the author think that starvation is applied widely in treatment of obese patients.
